Shed Some Light

The shed in the sunlight.

By now, you might have noticed how much I love this old blacksmith’s shed on the farm. Its weathered, aged patina, smokestack piping, & repurposed doors & iron connect me to the history of its past use. In several places around the farm and house, you’ll see antique horseshoes, their rusted surfaces communicating stories of a functioning dairy & boarding house.

Such character from every angle.

The shed has a personality that shifts with every season. The color of the wood fades or darkens depending on the sunlight, the rays that hit it from different angles, revealing new traits, new quirks. In winter, robes of white snow cloak its surface. And in spring the light soaks in, illuminating the amber boards as if they were glowing.

I’m very fond of this old shed. It’s become a good friend, neighbor to the raised garden beds & sentry keeping watch over the orchard.
