Introvert Things: Quirky Spaces

The old train station in our NH town, converted into a coffee shop, florist hub, & purveyor of neat objects of design.

In our little NH town of Goffstown, there’s a lovely spot for introverts to find hot beverages & baked goods & look at art as well as many curios of design. First & foremost, you’ll find gorgeous flowers, plants, & arrangements. Stunning.

Personally, I’ve been quite inspired by many of the things I’ve seen there in terms of aesthetic & design. A mix of old “rusty gold” & boho chic meet industrial farmhouse, the interior dazzles with a plethora of unique things to catch your eye.

Velour couches & seating, mixed with organic wood & plants, provide a immediate sense of comfort.

With super high ceilings, there are unique lighting features, hanging plants, & art pieces. Huge, sprawling branches snake over the main tea room, giving the place a kind of Wonderland feel. Curiouser & curiouser in finding tree limbs inside, seemingly growing through walls as ceiling decoration… I can feel like Alice, wide-eyed & magical. Where will I find that bottle labeled “Drink me” or the small cake that will make me grow & shrink in size?

I half-expect the Mad Hatter to preside over a table set with tea service.

One of the decorative iterations of the main tea/coffee room, which regularly shifts to always be something new.

Of course, throw tea, coffee, & baked goods into the mix & I’m definitely there, rabbit hole or no. Yet, this place has the added bonus of decorative items you can take home, like terrariums, succulents, earrings designed as famous books, & even jewelry made from re-purposed bicycle parts. Heirloom plant seeds, scarves, high-end toiletries, & paper art all await. The offerings frequently change to keep things fresh. It’s almost like a bazaar.

There is an eclectic assortment of plants & ferns, lanterns, mesh & wicker lighting, chippy furniture, that all work together to feel comfy.

Apotheca has tremendous charm in the community events it hosts. There are all kinds of fun nights held, like open mic sessions, paint or photography classes, & even terrarium making. Since introverts need to feel relaxed in spaces, many are pulled to quirky places due to the nature of these quiet(er) activities. We don’t mind being in the presence of others, so long as we aren’t pressured to interact on a surface level.

If you want to discuss books or theories, critique films, unpack a new art exhibit or play, geek out over a new streaming series that you’ve binge-watched, wax poetic about how much you love your dog, or pretty much delve into any of your passions, introverts will totally engage. We enjoy genuine, one-on-one or small groups of friends… in moderation, of course. Always in moderation.

A place like Apotheca serves that function exceedingly well.

The tea & coffee bar, where you can order a lovely London Fog tea or frozen hot chocolate, along with a scone or confection.

You can purchase plants, tea accoutrements, & antiques found on many of the counters inside, while looking out upon the front lounging deck.

Introverts, where are your quirky places? Where’s that funky spot that inspires you with creative culture or an exchange of ideas?

Just as we have our solitary dreaming places, we too have places that stimulate our thoughts & connections to others. We need those very special, highly prized locations in order to draw us out of our Bag Ends & recharging stations.
